They continue to haunt my mind

I feel them crawling in my heart

Screaming in agony with broken wings

It was never meant to be this hard

Over and over they flash

A painful reminder of what I’ve done

Inscribed words howl and fade

They’ll never fly or run

Nothing can be changed

Moments now melded into the past

Like stone it remains

Now a mountain stands vast

I can leap, but only into a void

For there is no love to catch me

You took it when you ran

But left sorrow at my feet

“Take me too” I want to scream

But darkness can not steal the light

There are only shadows behind your eyes

Dancing in your mind

Cracks, rips, pain

They didn’t ask to be made

But these butterflies can only stay

They try to fight through the pain

But it’s been too long since you’ve poisoned my brain
