Did you ever want a tattoo, but you’re way too indecisive? Or maybe you want to try something new, but you are afraid of not liking it forever. Tattoos are permanent, very expensive, painful, and unreliable to remove. Most of us are not even of age to get a tattoo! Fortunately, there is a solution for this. Introducing henna, a temporary tattoo that has been passed on for many years by many cultures.
Henna is a paste made of the leaves of Lawsonia inermis, which can also be referred to as the henna tree. Henna has been around for many years and is becoming a more known practice in people’s lives. Many people throughout Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia use henna to decorate their hands with beautiful designs before big events like weddings, holidays and celebrations. However, it doesn’t just stop there, henna is something that should be appreciated and can be used by all! The designs are intricate, and endless, so anyone can get creative with it.
For cultural appreciation, we have a Henna Club at FDR. I am president of the Henna Club, where we apply henna on people, and we also teach people about the history and application of it. The Henna Club appears at many school events like the Eid festival, where many Muslims use henna in their culture to accessorize before their big celebration. Also, during the Culture Fest, we used our knowledge and abilities to educate other people about henna and making gorgeous designs on many people’s hands. I myself have been doing henna for a very long time, and you can learn too! For more information, interest and questions on henna, come see Ms. Ayyad in room 423.
