Coach Slayton Takes The Lead!
This has been an exciting time for FDR basketball, as Coach Slayton has taken over as the Head Coach of the Lady Cougars. Coach P was really excited about the opportunity to hand the program over to a talented and enthusiastic coach like Ms. Slayton. While the Cougars have struggled to put up big win numbers this year, the squad is heading in the right direction under Coach Slayton’s leadership. According to Coach Slayton, “Attitude is a choice. What you think you can do, whether positive or negative, confident or scared, will most likely happen.” Coach Slayton is trying, not only to make players better on the court, she wants them to be model citizens at FDR.
Jayda Frett is putting up MVP numbers again this year. The junior is scoring about 14 points per game and adding almost 9 rebounds a game. Victoria Martinez is killing it on the boards, with over 9 rebounds a game, while adding 5 points in every contest. Senior, Alicia Luk, has added leadership and dedication, while averaging 5 points per game. Freshman Kaltrina Krasniqi, and Sophomore, Khadiza Rahman are future stars for the Lady Cougars, showing great promise this year.
Coach Slayton is a firm believer that if you have knowledge, pass it on to those who do not. She feels playing sports builds character and confidence, but it also gives players a sense of accomplishment. It prepares young people for life. Players learn about working as a team, not just individuals. Seems like Coach Slayton’s coaching philosophy is preparing the Lady Cougars for more than just life on the hardwood.
Congrats to Coach Slayton on her first year leading the Lady Cougars! The sky is the limit for our Lady Cougars!
