Girls Basketball Is Ready To Roll!

Looking years back at FDR’s Girls Basketball team, it was pretty scary. There is honestly no nice way to put it, they needed to improve. In their 2015-2016 season their record was 0-16, 0 wins 16 loses. The year after, they improved somewhat, and the record was 4-12. The following year of 2017-2018 was a turning point. The Lady Cougars record was 11-8. When looking back to previous years, some would have thought improvement was unlikely. However, the Lady Cougars did a complete 360 and shocked most. Coach Patamarapipan and Coach Slayton saw first hand the improvement of the girls. It was only fitting to interview Coach P to get his thoughts on the approaching season.

Q: How long have you been coaching the team?

This season will be my 6th season coaching the team.

Q: Last year’s team was your superstar team, do you think this year’s team matches up with last year’s team?

Last year’s team was one of the best Girls Varsity basketball teams FDR has had in the past 20 years. With that being said, that was last season. Every season, adjustments need to be made to adapt to the team’s strength. This team’s focal point and approach will be different than last season.

Q: In the previous season your star players Kinga, Magda and Sara seemed to lead the show. Do you see any one that can fill their spots, or was that a once in a lifetime trio? Who are FDR’s up and coming star?

Kinga, Magda, and Sara were a trio that will never be replaced.  This season, the team will rely heavily on size.  Jayda Frett and Victoria Martinez are two girls the team will look to to help lead this team.

Q: What are your goals and expectations for the season?

The main goal for this season is to repeat two things from last season.  One, have every player who started on the team finish on the team.  That means every player is passing their classes. Two, get back to the playoffs.

A special thanks to Coach P for taking the time to preview the up coming season. We all look forward to following the team this year! Make us proud Lady Cougars!
