Boys Varsity Soccer Team- On the Hunt!
The FDR’s Boys Soccer team is back in business and looking for another robust season. Coming off last year’s record of ten wins and three losses, the Cougars have quite a lot of new faces this year. One of the most notable differences is a new head coach. Andrew Marcy will be taking over Mr. Gottesman’s old position, while striving to maintain the same level of success and confidence the team has enjoyed for years.
The Cougars haven’t started off the season as expected, having only won three out of the seven games played so far. Not to mention one of those loses was a forfeit, due to an unregistered player. Of course this is to be expected, since the team is young and might need more time to sync and build chemistry. There’s still plenty of time to turn things around for the season. However, the pressure to continue being one of the best teams in the divisions still lingers.
Regardless of everything, the team is focused on not only winning, but having a great time. Talking to members of the team, most of them agree that the team chemistry is amazing. This is especially important with so many newcomers on the roster. The chemistry has definitely been improving, as seen by the recent two game winning streak against New Utretcht and Brooklyn International. Hopefully, this win streak will only continue to grow and flourish.
Strategy wise, the team’s main priority is no not offense, but defense! The Cougars love feeding off amazing defensive plays and zoning. Of course, no season is without competition. Long time rivals Fort Hamilton currently lead the division by seven points, along with James Madison. Expect to see really close and intense matches, whenever those two schools face off with our Cougars.
Just remember that these Cougars can’t do it alone, come out and support the Boys Soccer team while the season is still underway! Go get them Cougars!
