Congratulations to sophomore Shung Huei Zhu for being named this Spring’s Male Future Star. Not only is Shung an up and coming Badminton star, he is a member of the Boys Volleyball team. Shung loves attending FDR. He has made many new friends in his classes and on his teams. Shung really enjoys learning new things, and he is currently on the FDR Math Team. What makes FDR such a special place to Shung is the multicultural student population.

Shung believes his greatest strength, as an athlete, is his ability to communicate with his teammates. On the Badminton team, Shung played a lot of doubles this year. According to Coach Hellman, Shung’s ability to communicate well with his partner was a major reason the Boys Badminton team was able to win its 4th Championship in a row. Shung would like to develop his ability to deal with pressure situations. He is looking forward to this year’s Volleyball season, so he can learn to overcome the pressure he puts on himself to succeed.

Shung’s advice for young student/athletes is to stay on track academically, be supportive of teammates, and respect to your teachers and coaches. Also, always remain positive. Shung feels that sportsmanship was a contributing factor in being named a Future Star. He is very grateful to his coaches, Hellman and Hand, for having faith in him.
