With the spring season officially starting, every team in the region will be trying to make a name for themselves. The Boys Tennis team, with the great coaching of Ms. Kolesnik (Ms. K), are looking to find their way into a playoff spot. They are in a really tough position, with powerful teams like Brooklyn Tech and Fort Hamilton ahead, making them massive underdogs. Our Cougars will need a strong spirit, and maybe a miracle, to reach their goal.

Just like in every fairy tale there needs to be an inspiring voice and a motivational character, this year Sleed Silaire will be stepping up to the plate one more time as Team Captain and 1st Singles. Sleed has been through it all with the FDR tennis team. He started playing during his freshman year, and with incredible footwork, unreal speed, and a powerful swing, he quickly ran through the double’s division and made a name for himself, earning a spot in the single division for the following years. When asked what his goal for this year was, all his answers went back to one thing, “It is my job to make sure that I help all of my teammates to train and compete to the best of their ability.” He expanded that he was looking forward to some matchups, as he gained experience from some past mistakes. He is willing to give it all on the court, as this being his last season as a Cougar. He is a true veteran and a role model. According to Sleed, Salman Nadeem is an ascending leader on the team and is ready to take over once Sleed graduates.

As the seniors are preparing themselves for a great send off, it’s for the rest of the team to make sure that they are ready to take over, as the torch will be passed down to them. Last year, one freshman who proved himself as capable to take over for the next couple of years was Mian Kelmendi, our school’s 3rd singles. As a sophomore he already proved himself capable with a great forehand and backhand swing. He stills has a lot of room for improvement and under the incredible coaching of Ms. K, his greatness will be undeniable. Others like Salman Nadeem , Andy Li , Ergashev Ramizjon, and Ramos Jimenez Misael will contribute to the team, as they seek glory. With a rough and exciting season ahead, these gentlemen will do their best to live up to the expectations and bring success to FDR . LET’S GO COUGARS !!!
