Our school has had major success in the sporting world this year. In almost every sport in South Brooklyn, we have made a name for ourselves. However, this year is special. Our beloved Coach Stanco has led, the best of the best, to represent our Girl’s Table Tennis team. A talented lineup took the Brooklyn I division Championship with a 9-1 record!
Yelyzaveta Kovalenko, the team’s 1st singles, and a graduating senior, has made a name for herself with her powerful smash and incredible serves. When asked what her goal for this year was, she replied, “This team has a lot of potential, and it is my goal to help the team. Throughout every practice, make sure WE as a team, not only fulfill these potentials, but surpass them.” These are truly motivational words, and this season, she has been nothing but dominating, going on an insane individual run of 10-0. That’s right, undefeated in divisional play. The Doubles units have also been magical this year. Brianna Cueto Garcia is one of our second doubles players. She has established her reputation, not only as a model student-athlete who believes in the power of friendship, but also as a dominant table tennis player with her knowledge of the game and recognizable smash. When asked what she was grateful for this season, she replied, “I’m extremely grateful for every single one of these hard-working girls and the bond that we created spending all that time together, we’re not only a team; we are a family.”
These girls truly showcased their skills, and put FDR on the map, with an amazing 9-1 record. We are so proud of the Girl’s Table Tennis team for all their wins, commitment, and dedication to school spirit.
