Teams on the Rise in the 2018-2019 NBA Season
The Golden State Warriors have won three NBA championships in the last four season with the unstoppable trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Durant. In the last four finals the Warriors played Lebron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, but with Lebron taking his talents to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Eastern conference has become a fresh new landscape that could give the Warriors some trouble. The Toronto Raptors traded their all star shooting guard Demar Derozen(25 pts, 6.4 reb, 6.6 ast) to the San Antonio Spurs for a superstar small forward in Kawhi Leonard(24 pts, 7.7 reb, 3.1 ast). Leonard has lead the team to a record of 12-2 which is the best record in the whole league. Another team in the east that has been making a lot of noise this season are the Milwaukee Bucks, who are off to a great 10-3 start with all star player the Greek Freak Giannis Antetokounmpo (25.4 ppg, 13 reb, 5.8 ast). They gave the Raptors their first loss of the season last week.
The Philadelphia 76ers have a talented young team with two main stars in Ben Simmons(14.9 ppg, 9.5 reb, 7.7 ast) and Joel Embiid(28.2 ppg, 13.4 rpg, 3.5 ast). The Sixers are a hardworking team with players who are doing all they can to craft their game. Even though they had a very successful season last year, Philadelphia fell short in the Eastern Conference against the Boston Celtics losing the series in five games. Lat year, the 76ers lacked a superstar player in order to make them a championship contender. However. after trading away a future first round pick, Dario Saric and Robert Covington to the Minnesota Timberwolves the 76ers got Jimmy Butler(21.3 ppg, 5.2 reb, 4.3 ast). Though Butler won’t debut for the 76ers until their game against the Orlando Magic on November 14th, this has the NBA world buzzing to the point where many are now predicting they will make it to the NBA Finals.
Other teams that will make a big impact this season include the Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers and the Detroit Pistons. The Nuggets have a 23 year old center from Serbia named Nikola Jokic, who so far this season has averaged 17.5 ppg, 10.4 reb and 6.9 ast in the first 14 games of this season. The Nuggets owe victories against both the Celtics and Warriors and are off to a 9-5 start this season. The Indiana Pacers are another team with a very young core with Victor Oladipo being their most important player. So far this season, he has been averaging 23.8 ppg, 7.1 reb, 4.9 ast. The Pacers have other key players in Myles Turner and Bojan Bogdanovic. The Detroit Pistons last season traded for a veteran power forward in Blake Griffin, who this season has averaged 24.1 ppg, 9.2 reb, 4.3 ast. Another star player is center Andre Drummond, who this season has averaged 19.6 ppg, 16.6 reb, 1.5 ast. The pistons have the talent to become a big time threat, it’s up to the team to put all the pieces together. Many young teams are on the rise, but which ones will truly shine through. Can’t wait to see!
