As we all know, this is Trump’s second term as president. What you might’ve not have known is that he actually banned travel from “dangerous” countries before, during his first term. Now he is planning on bringing that back. These countries are separated into categories. Red, Orange, and Yellow. Red being the highest, meaning full restriction, with no travel to the United States. Orange means that their home nation is considered to pose a possible threat to national security, therefore, requiring those who come from those countries to be interviewed by U.S. officials in person. Lastly, Yellow means that the countries listed in that category have 60 days to address the Trump Administration’s concerns, or be moved up to either Red, or Orange.
Which Countries are being affected by this change?
The countries listed in Red are:
Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cuba, Iran, Libya, North Korea, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.
The countries listed in Orange are:
Belarus, Eritrea, Haiti, Laos, Myanmar, Pakistan, Russia, Sierra Leone, South Sudan, and Turkmenistan.
Lastly, the countries listed in Yellow are:
Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Chad, Republic of Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Dominica, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.
What does this mean for us regular people?
These travel restrictions mean that those who are native to those countries listed, who currently reside in the United States, would be unable to visit their relatives back home. They may face problems later down the line, especially for those who originate from countries listed in Red or Orange. This also means that the family of those who are already here may face further trouble if they chose to immigrate to the U.S. as well, possibly displacing families. Few rarer side-effects may include: less workforce, global tension, and an increase in the prices of consumer goods.
Even though the information here can be subject to change, it is still important to pay attention to details like these in order to catch up with current events and be prepared for the ever-changing future brought by Trump’s second term.
