Have you ever clicked with somebody so well, that you feel like the same person as them? Well, maybe you are. To a certain extent. In order to tell, you can get a personality test that really resonates with you. There is a personality indicator that categorizes you into different personality types. This is called the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, which is also known as MBTI. MBTI is a tool to help people categorize themselves into 16 distinct personalities based on 4 core preferences. In order to get your MBTI, each of these 4 pairs will create a 4-digit code, which will translate to what type of person you are. Personality is fascinating, because it highlights the differences in everyone. It refers to your behaviors, thoughts, emotions, interactions, responses and just everything about you.
The first one is Extraversion (E) vs. Introversion (I). This measures how social you are and makes you question where you direct your energy. Next is Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N). This makes you question how you process your information. Do you use facts and logic and look at things based on the present, which designates with (S), or do you look at the big future and possibilities (N)? The next one is a big one because it relates to our everyday thinking. How do you make decisions? This is where Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F) comes in. If you make decisions logically and concisely, you are more on the (T) side. If you make them based on your morals and impact on others or even your gut feeling, you are more of an (F). In the last category, we have Judging (J) vs. Perceiving (P). This questions how you view the outside world and other people or how you view obstacles you will come across. If you value structure and proper closure, you are more of a judger, but if you value the spontaneity and flexibility of things, you are more perceiving.
When combined, these preferences form a 4-digit code that tells you a lot about yourself. Of course there are many other factors to look at because personality can be a very nuanced topic, but MBTI helps with learning more about yourself and also others. This helps you better understand how you see people around you and why you are the way you are. While it’s true that MBTI doesn’t capture the full complexity of human personality, it provides a useful framework for personal exploration.
