The topic of New York’s inconsistent weather patterns has been rising. Many people are wondering how the temperature can go up to 75 in November. This is extremely unusual because during this time New York starts to get chilly and can even see occurrences of light snowfall. Slowly moving into winter, less snowfall can cause really dry conditions in the summer, which also leads to an increase in wildfires. The topic of climate change grows and gets worse as the days pass. NYC recently faced a drought. There was little to no rainfall for weeks. Many fires happened all throughout New York City, which has made New Yorkers concerned about the unusual weather.
As of 2024, New York has faced disasters like tornadoes, hurricanes, and extreme fires. According to CNN.com, “Central Park normally sees over 8.5 inches of rain in September and October but has only seen about 1.5 inches since the beginning of September,” the spokesperson said. “That’s a huge difference.” This justifies the fires that’ve been happening because, due to the lack of rainfall, there’s been extreme droughts. The dryness in the air really affects the temperature and causes the temperature to spike. If you opened up your weather app this past month, you would’ve seen red flag warnings issued by the National Weather Services due to possible fire risks.
If you’ve been living in New York for a while, you would know that our autumn days are extremely unreliable. In the mornings it’s chilly with the sun peeking through the clouds; towards the afternoon the sun is blazing and it reaches 60-70 degrees, and then as soon as the sun sets you better rush home, because it is absolutely freezing! There is not much we can do about climate change except try and keep our earth as clean as possible. Unfortunately, we need to adapt to the changes in weather, because it will gradually change every year. As a New Yorker, you should always dress well just in case of any sudden twists and turns with the weather, and always carry a jacket!
