As the school year is coming to an end, seniors will have their last couple of memories in high school before graduating. Whether it is going on the last couple trips that we have, attending award ceremonies, or dancing the night away at prom. It will not compete with the bittersweet moments of hugging friends and families before starting a new journey after high school. This was an idea I had in mind for a while now. But hopefully, you will watch these movies that I suggest that hit close to being a senior or the feeling of starting a new journey.
High School Musical Series: Troy Bolton is the star athlete at high school who falls for a girl named Gabriella Montez. The two decided to audition for the upcoming school musical and the usual high school drama and struggles they would soon face. I highly recommend watching the full series in order to understand what goes on in the movies. But I specifically put this movie as the first to watch, because the last movie hits close to home when it comes to colleges and graduation.
Lady Bird: In 2002, Christine McPherson is a senior at a Catholic High School in Sacramento California. She calls herself “Lady Bird.” Despite the financial issues her family has, she really wants to attend a prestigious college along the East Coast. With her ambitious dreams, she would not have a very good relationship with her mother. This movie explores the themes of self-identity and personal growth as the movie navigates the relationships between the main character and her family.
Senior Year: A high school cheerleader who falls into a coma and wakes up twenty years later thinking she is still a senior in high school. She is woken up from the coma one day and wants to return to high school to reclaim her popularity status and become prom queen. But things do not go as planned as everything aged 20 years later.
She’s All That: Zach Siler’s popularity declines as his cheerleader girlfriend leaves him for another guy. Desperately trying to revive his reputation, he made a bet to gain the trust of an outcast for six weeks and turn them into the next prom queen.
Booksmart: Two high school overachievers have been diving their noses in books all year leading up to graduation. The two decide to cram everything they missed out on during their teenage years, within high school, into one night that they would never forget.
The Spectacular Now: A popular high school senior meets a shy and quiet girl whom he has not noticed throughout his four years of high school. Eventually, they fall in love and things turn out to be the opposite of happy. There were clear differences between them, as they tried to make it work.
