Did you know New York City is one of the fashion capitals? As the leaves start changing and the air gets cooler, fall fashion is all about mixing style with the season’s change. Coming from bright yellow tank tops, shorts, and sandals during the summer, in Autumn, you may see a lot of burgundy and brown colors. As the weather gets cooler, you’ll see a lot of white cardigans, creams, grays more. No one switches up fashion trends with the seasons like New Yorkers. Known for its Fashion Week started way back in the 1940s, this event only happens twice a year in September and February. The history of fall fashion in New York goes way back to the 1900s when NYC became known for top fashion designers and their brands, some of which still stand today- including Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, and many more.
This season is all about layering, so say goodbye to tank tops and hello to oversized sweaters, leggings, and boots. Recently we have gone backwards in time bringing back clothes like low-rise jeans from the 2000s and baggy clothes from the 90s back into style. We even brought back bell bottoms from the retro 70s. One activity that a lot of New Yorkers take part in is visiting thrift and vintage stores, to match old brands with new brands. Believe it or not, at your local thrift store you could find gems like Juicy Couture, Carhartt, and so many more that were once over $100, now for $30 and less! Having style is not about having the newest, most expensive clothing pieces. It is about being creative with what you have to express yourself! What’s a good outfit without accessories? Whether it’s cute beanies, tote bags, layering jewelry, or simply statement belts, accessorizing makes any outfit better. The classic combo of boots and leg warmers is a must-have. I am obsessed with furry boots, leg warmers, and ear muffs in the fall season!
Finally, don’t be afraid to experiment with color. Fall fashion isn’t just about plain neutrals anymore! While deep reds, oranges, and browns are still in, bold stone tones like emerald green and sapphire blue are beautiful in Fall Fashion. Whether you’re going to school, or even just running errands through the city, these bright colors will keep your outfits exciting and fresh for the season. Always try to look your best, because you never know what opportunities you could meet just based on your style. Or think of it like this, you know how in movies when a character dies the clothes they die in become their ghost fit. Would you be happy to go on in a ghost world that way? Stay warm, stay stylish, and make this fall your most fashionable one yet!
