Do you have pollen allergies? Pollen allergies are one of the most common allergies people suffer from, with tens of millions of people who suffer from them each year. As we go into the month of April, the peak month for pollen allergies, millions of people will suffer from the unpleasant symptoms that come with the allergies.
What causes pollen allergies?
As the name suggests, pollen allergies are caused by pollen. As spring rolls around, flowers start to bloom and plants begin to release pollen into the air, with one of the most common pollen being tree pollen. The pollens released by the plants are breathed in by people, and for people who are allergic to pollen, their immune systems will interpret the pollen or allergens as a threat and begin producing antibodies in response to the allergens. This would lead to the symptoms experienced by those with pollen allergies.
What are some symptoms and treatments of pollen allergies?
As plants release the pollen into the air, people with pollen allergies will begin to feel the symptoms. Some of the symptoms of pollen allergies may include constant sneezing, runny nose, red and watery eyes and a stuffy nose among many other symptoms. As unpleasant as these symptoms are, there are treatments to reduce those symptoms. The easiest and simplest way is to limit exposure to the pollen by staying indoors especially during the morning as it is when grass pollen mainly circulates. Similarly, it would be a good idea to keep the windows at home and in the car closed and also avoid going to picnics or other events at places like parks or in the countryside. Now even though limiting exposure to pollen can be a good idea, there are situations required going outside can’t be avoided. Furthermore, sometimes a person’s allergy symptoms are severe and would need other methods. One the more effective way to deal with the symptoms would be to just pay a visit to the doctor and get prescribed some medication to deal with the symptoms.
Although spring may be the best months for some, it may be a total disaster for others. Spring brings about many great things such as the blooming of flowers and warmer weather, but it also leads to unpleasant experiences for many as they deal with effects of pollen allergies.
