Are You With The Band?

The  FDR High School Band was founded in the Spring of 2015. The band participates in two annual concerts at FDR, the Columbus’ Day Parade, St. Patrick’s Day Parade, the Memorial Day Parade, and Graduation Day at Brooklyn College. They even participate at Parent Teacher Conference! The band consists of 8 instruments including flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, baritone horn, and drums. Miss Novoa says that instrumentalists of all levels are welcome. She has accessible books for beginners and also the harder ones for the advanced players.  There are currently 30 students in the band, and 11 of them started off as beginners! So don’t be afraid to join.

The band is open as a class that students can select when they meet with their guidance counselors. There is also a music club after 8th period on Thursdays, which closely relates to the band.  Last of all, the most exciting thing I learned about the band is that each person has the chance to learn two instruments simultaneously. Also, the band members get to choose one of the songs played at the concerts! Come join the band if you are interested in music. The way to join is to either pick the band class as an elective or join the music club on Thursdays. Miss Novoa is usually available in room 193.
